Affiliate Disclosure
The short version
The Remodel Guide may contain affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, we may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. We only recommend products we believe are genuinely useful to our readers, and affiliate income does not influence what we recommend.
The longer version, in plain language
From time to time, The Remodel Guide may participate in affiliate marketing programs with merchants whose products we cover. When we link to a product through one of these programs, the merchant may pay us a small commission if you make a purchase. The price you pay is the same as if you visited the merchant directly.
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission requires content publishers to disclose material commercial relationships with the products they recommend. This page is that disclosure for The Remodel Guide, and it applies whether or not affiliate links are currently active on the site.
How affiliate links work on this site
When we recommend a product through an affiliate program, the link usually routes through our own /go/ redirect (for example, /go/cordless-drill-recommended) before forwarding you to the merchant's site. This is for two reasons: it lets us update the destination URL in one place when products change, and it makes it easier for you to identify affiliate links by hovering over them.
If you purchase through one of these links, the merchant pays us a commission, typically a small percentage of the sale. The price you pay is the same as if you visited the merchant directly. Affiliate commissions, when they exist, help fund the writing and research that goes into this site.
Where you will see affiliate links
Articles that contain affiliate links carry a visible disclosure above the first paragraph: "This article contains affiliate links. We may earn a commission if you purchase through them at no extra cost to you." That notice links back to this page. Articles that do not contain affiliate links do not display the disclosure banner.
The categories of products we may include affiliate links for include tools, paint and primer supplies, kitchen and bathroom fixtures, appliances, flooring, and other materials covered in our articles.
What we do not do
We do not run contractor lead-generation programs or earn fees for referring contractors. We do not accept payment for editorial coverage. We do not run sponsored content disguised as editorial recommendations. Affiliate income does not change which products we recommend.
If a product we recommended in the past no longer meets our criteria (because the manufacturer changed it, quality dropped, or a better option emerged), we update the recommendation regardless of which option pays a higher commission. Editorial integrity is more valuable than incremental affiliate income.
How to identify affiliate links on this site
Two signals indicate an affiliate link:
- The link URL starts with
/go/(you can see this in your browser status bar when hovering) - The article displays the affiliate disclosure banner above the first paragraph
Internal navigation links (links to other articles on this site) and links to source citations (NAHB, BLS, Harvard JCHS, etc.) are not affiliate links and never carry commission.
